The practical and therapeutic nasal irrigation device.
Almost everyone who has practiced Neti swears by its effectiveness for sinus infections, allergy, stuffiness due to dusty conditions and ENT problems. In fact, Neti is so successful that responses which were once 'no way would I do that' are now 'this is great!'
Many people use it as a daily health maintenance practice, and now, yoga practitioners are hopping on the Neti bandwagon. The practice of Neti helps increase breathing competency which clearly would benefit any yoga practitioner. When breathing technique and ability is strong, our chemistry returns to a balanced state.
For regular healthy maintenance use 1-2 times a day, upon rising and at least an hour before bedtime .
How to use:
The technique is not as hard or uncomfortable as one may think at first. Once learned, the practice can be done in about 3 minutes. Fill the nasal pot just below its lip with warm water. Add ½ a teaspoon of sea salt and stir until it is thoroughly dissolved. Bend over the sink an turn your head to one side. Keeping the pot level, place the spout into the top nostril until it has a snug fit. Breathe through your mouth and slowly tip your head downward allowing the warm water to travel through your sinuses and out the other nostril. Use half the water and repeat on the other side. If you experience an uncomfortable sensation, adjust the temperature of the water or level of salt. Baking soda may be used if the salt irritates your sinuses.
If you are particularly congested, the water may not actually flow through and out the other nostril. If this occurs, take in as much water as you can and blow your nose. Repeat again in 30 minutes. Blow gently, your membranes are sensitive!! Please consult your health care practitioner regarding your condition for additional guidance or information.
